  31. You're not going to like my answer to this problem....

  33. Sounds like a problem with contiguous memory or possibly different memory 
  34. speeds....the animation gets put into two different memory locations, 
  35. since you've got memory in two different places, so that when the 
  36. animation plays back, the first part plays okay and then it has to pull 
  37. the second part from a completely different memory location (which may be 
  38. much slower than the first).  In general, memory access directly from the 
  39. motherboard is probably faster than memory access from the FastLane card, 
  40. or it could be the other way around...you may have very slow memory on 
  41. the motherboard and very fast memory in the FastLane.

  43. Try finding some diagnostic software to test memory speeds and contiguous 
  44. memory chunks...I think AIBB is a good one and it can be found on most 
  45. FTP sites....this will tell you which bank of memory is faster and which 
  46. bank of memory is causing the slowdown.

  48. The only way I know of to correct the problem is to move all the memory 
  49. to one location and make sure it's all the same speed...if the memory on 
  50. the FastLane is faster than the A4000's motherboard memory, then you're 
  51. gonna have to lose the motherboard memory and buy more memory for the 
  52. FastLane if it can support more than 16megs.

  54. You need to get the biggest chunk of contiguous memory possible with the 
  55. fastest speed possible...I know that DKB makes a 128meg RAM board that 
  56. does a nice job for playing back anims with the Toaster 4000, but with 
  57. the money it's going to cost you to populate that RAM board, you could 
  58. buy a used PAR with hard drive or maybe even a Flyer!
  59.  
  60. A simpler and cheaper solution would be make your animation smaller so 
  61. that it will fit into the biggest chunk of contiguous memory without 
  62. spilling over into the slower memory, but this doesn't sound like an 
  63. option for you since you're having problems with playback after only 3 
  64. seconds worth of animation.  =(
